Do you have some old Mason jars just sitting around collecting dust in your home?
If so, you could consider turning them into tealight candle holders, complete with this lacy Mason jar cover that allows for a burst of light when the tealight candle within the jar is lit, sending spots of light around the room, producing an absolutely beautiful effect, particularly with several (or more) of them!
The lace cover also provides some protection for the jar in the event the jar is dropped or knocked off of where it sits!
There are three different lace patterns included within this pattern, so you can choose to have a more lacy look or less lacy, depending on your own preference.
Because there are differences in sizes of Mason jars, you may need to do some finagling to figure out the perfect size for the particular jars that you will be using. Therefore, there is no exact gauge, because this project has been designed to fit over a number of different sizes of jars.
The three lace patterns themselves range from one for a beginner, as well as ones for intermediate and advanced, so even a beginner can give a try at this one.
Another great suggestion this pattern has included in it is the addition of gold spray paint around the top of the jar, to give the jar an extra nice finish! There is a comparison picture in the pattern, comparing a spray-painted jar top to a unpainted one…the difference is huge!
Do note that it is highly recommended that you use tealight candles within the Mason jars rather than taller/larger candles, as the taller candles won’t dispense as much candlelight through the lace.
Give this one a try sometime! When you can get the size right (you probably will want to take notes regarding the number of stitches cast on, etc.), this is truly a spectacular knitting project!
