Handy Herringbone Coasters! (FREE Knitting Pattern)

You have probably at least heard of the herringbone knitting stitch, even if you haven’t yet tried it!

If you haven’t yet tried the herringbone stitch in your knitting, these wonderful coasters would be a good starting point to give it a try!

The herringbone stitch is one that is thick and textured, making it great for this coaster design.

It is important to note that 100% cotton yarn is recommended for this project. The coasters should be capable of absorbing excess moisture that condenses on the outside of glasses of cold/iced beverages, and cotton is highly recommended over acrylic because of its ability to absorb moisture.

It’s your choice whether you want to include the fringe around the outside edges of the coasters. There are instructions for having the fringe or not having it included.

This pattern is rated at the advanced-beginner level. Things you should be able to do include casting on, casting off, knitting in garter stitch (there is a tutorial provided at the pattern site if you don’t know how), purling, and doing the herringbone stitch (tutorial also included at the pattern site).

You will also need US Size 11 knitting needles and a US Size H crochet hook.
